MCNC Healthcare Institutions

Healthcare Institutions

MCNC serves Healthcare Institutions that are part of the North Carolina Telehealth Network Association (NCTNA), a network by and for NC public and nonprofit healthcare providers, with high capacity, high performance broadband and networking solutions. In 2010, MCNC and the NCTNA executed an agreement that allows MCNC to be the broadband service provider for NCTNA.

Enabling Breakthrough Solutions for Transformative Healthcare

Services

MCNC provides a fully-managed suite of network and security services, including installation, 24x7x365 client support, maintenance, proactive performance monitoring and management, and real-time reporting of service-level metrics. In collaboration with the N.C. Department of Information Technology and other private telecom carriers, these services meet or exceed the requirements of the NCTNA at affordable costs.

Expertise

Designed and operated to meet the highly demanding and secure needs of healthcare providers, MCNC’s services, operational expertise, and decades of experience combine to ensure a consistent and dependable solution for NCTNA.

Solutions

MCNC’s world-class fiber network, the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN), provides a robust infrastructure for supporting the delivery of healthcare to subscribers of NCTNA. As healthcare is increasingly reliant on Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and Internet-enabled services, high-speed and secure broadband connectivity is critically essential to providing services such as telemedicine, telepsychiatry, medical imaging, and primary care. By increasing access to physicians and specialists, NCTNA helps ensure patients across the state receive the right care, at the right place, at the right time, and at the right cost. MCNC is proud to provide the foundation.

Supporting Healthcare In North Carolina

NCTNA is an eligible FCC Healthcare Connect Fund (HCF) service provider. Public and nonprofit healthcare organizations are eligible for HCF program discounts. Healthcare sites that are eligible for the FCC’s program discounts range from small community health clinics to large hospitals. Additionally, administrative and data center locations that support these sites are eligible. A consortium such as NCTNA must have at least 50% rural sites among all eligible sites in order to obtain discounts through the program. (There are also options for savings for ineligible sites.) NC Medicaid HIT Plan

The State Medicaid Health Information Technology (HIT) Plan  (SMHP) provides an overview of the activities that have led to the progress that North Carolina has made to provide a more efficient, more effective healthcare system and healthier population in our state. The SMHP has been an important component of how NC DHHS strives to achieve its mission, “In collaboration with our partners, DHHS provides essential services to improve the health, safety and well-being of all North Carolinians.”
